i just learned of a film entitled "little man" that documents the nicu rollercoaster of the surrogate child of filmaker nicole conn. nicholas was born 100 days early ( odin was born about 105 days ) and weighed about a pound.
it's won a bunch of awards and the reviews look mostly positive. but i'm not so sure i'd be up for seeing it just yet since most of the reviews seem to describe it as "raw", "devastating" and "challenging".
maybe it'd be a good recommendation for friends and family of (micro)preemie parents who don't fully appreciate why they might suffer from post traumatic stress disorder :-)
I d-d-d-d *twitch* don't s-s-s-uffer fr-from post tr-tr-tr-*twicth* that d-d-d-disorder.
jennifer: " I d-d-d-d *twitch* don't s-s-s-uffer fr-from post tr-tr-tr-*twicth* that d-d-d-disorder."
yeah, me neither - it's all those other parents ;-)
sarah: " One of my good friends saw it and said he bawled through the whole thing. And he doesn't have ANY kids, to say nothing of a former micropreem."
well that settles it. i'm probably not going to go see it in the near future then.
“"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."”
the complete tales & poems of winnie the poohthis site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.
he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.
if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
