the eric update - day 1925: fun times running a water line!

just a little over a year after we began collecting sauna stones and felling cedar trees and just a little over two months after i started digging a water line trench for our 10th wedding anniversary sauna, we finally set out to finish putting the water line in, which is one of the last big projects to complete before the "snow flies".

first off, we rented a mighty hammer drill to punch a 1 inch wide, 18 inch long hole through the foundation so we could pull into the basement the end of the 70 foot water line that is connected to a hydrant in the sauna.

i thought this was going to be the tough part, but actually it was like a warm knife going through butter. pulling the 1 inch water line which was already buried on the outside wall through the snug hole was a little more challenging but we macgyvered our way through The Situation in short order with some duct tape, a paperclip and some twine.

after a little bit of "poor man's plumbing" ( involving a garden hose and various male to female fittings - "real" plumbing "to code" coming soon, honest! ) to connect the line to spigot in the basement, we were ready for a test run.

and whaddya know! we actually had water running in the sauna! no more hauling bathing buckets from the house! hurray!

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
