the eric update - day 137: unwired!

whooooohooooo! early today we received a call from his pediatrician and, after consulting with the neonatologists, everyone decided that little odin could be unwired from the home monitor!

after 137 days of having one thing or another attached to his body, this is A Really Big Deal.

so, with a little cermonial flair, we removed the last visible evidence of the nicu days, which seemed to make little odin quite happy.

Wow, I bet everybody's glad to be free of the monitor. He's really filling out these days!

Yea! I am so happy for Eric IV! He is getting so big. I cannot wait to see you all next week over the holiday. It will be such a thrill to finally see my nephew in person for the first time. Thanksgiving will be very special this year. So much to be thankful for. Give my nephew a big hug for me and tell him Auntie M will be there soon to give one in person. Love to you all, Monica

Congrats Odin!! Be sure to grunt in your sleep every now and then so your parents don't stay awake all night wondering if they should check on you. ;-)

"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
