the eric update - day 193: odin sitting up unassisted!

the title says it all. today little odin decided he wanted to sit up all by himself.

sure, we've been practicing with him for awhile and and he could teeter in a sitting position for a short period until his head wobbled and he fell over, but nothing that you could honestly claim to be "sitting up".

today, however - for what i think is the very first time - he sat and looked around with quite a serious look for a long time. sure, he had the boppy for an arm rest, but look at how high and steady he's keeping his head and how he's holding himself up with his other hand on the couch.

i think he's got the hang of it!

I've never commented here before, but I've been following your little one's progress since he was just a couple weeks old. To me, this is simply stunning! My own girls were very full term. I may have complained a lot about the 10 pound boogers coming out, but I do know how truly blessed I am.

Yet, even they did not sit up until the 6th month! You are truly blessed as well.

Has he laughed yet? |

he's does do a giggly-cooing thing that i think is pretty close to a laugh, which is really fun to listen to. that reminds me, i should do a recording of him sometime in the near future.

"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
