the eric update - day 215: 7 months! copier!

you didn't almost forget that odin is seven months old today, did you? of course you didn't. oh, how time flies and all that.

while it might seem that he's doing the tongue thing as he gazes at himself in the mirror, he's actually imitating me!

earlier in the day i was doing the move where you stick out your tongue and blow air out through your lips resulting in that funny "vibrating" lip motion with spit spraying everywhere. some infants can imitate this behavior at a very early age, but whenever we'd do it odin would just look blankly at us, perhaps wondering why we were spitting on him.

today he didn't try to copy me right away, but rather he waited a few hours and i caught him imitating me over and over again as he stared at himself in the mirror.

i suspect kris is wary of the many other wonderful things he'll attempt to imitate after seeing his pops do it first.

the proper parental terminoligy for this is "blowing a raspberry" - actually, I think it is listed as a milestone in a lot of baby development books.

You'll see it here under "Month Seven" along with "Imitates many sounds"

Happy 7 month birthday Odin!!

ahhhh. i figured there must be some sort of official terminology. i had no idea it was a seven month milestone - how perfectly appropriate that he did it on his seven month birthday!

Happy 7 month birthday, grandson! I did not forget on the 4th that it is another milestone for you. Now, what is Pops showing you how to do? Blowing a raspberry? Pops will be surprised one day when you do that and it is least expected (formal occasion). I hope that you had a great day yesterday. You are looking like a very big boy. Next thing we know you will be crawling (then running around!). Pops was surprised that you are perfectly normal and up to speed on all your accomplishments for your due date age. I'm not surprised. We just expected your Pops to be normal (and pretty smart) and thats what happened. Well, maybe he's not all together normal.....(but we'll keep that a secret....). Give Mom and Pops a hug for me. Love, Gwanmanman (Grandma) Sherry, Nana Rier and Kirk

"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
