ex machina

the eric update - day 264: working out with friends at the gym.

since odin has to build up his upper body strength he's taking more frequent trips to the gym.

luckily, there's always a familiar looking chap hanging out at the gym who is always willing to exchange smiles to help pass the time.

i often wonder when he'll figure out that he is, in fact, the baby in the mirror. maybe he has already, although i suspect not.

Hello, Odin is so cute, and looks so happy. I really enjoy watching him grow.
Mirrors are funny things, we thought that Nicolette (who is almost 18 months) had known about mirrors for ages, but then the other day she passed an unfamiliar mirror and her reaction was "mirror, baby!". At other times she is really cute, and peers right into a mirror, sticking out her tongue, touching her nose and giggling at herself.

Hi again,
just another idea that I read about, but have not tried yet, you may have already heard of it.
To see if a baby knows that the reflection is in fact, well a reflection, put a sticker, or a dab of lipstick or something similar on their face somewhere without them knowing. Perhaps whilst you are kissing them or something. Then let them look in the mirror and see if they touch their own face.
There are differing opinions on when a baby knows it is them in the reflection, some people would say just a few months and others maybe 18 months or even older. Maybe it depends on how often you look in the mirror with them telling it is them! :0)

"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
