ex machina

the eric update - day 298: an anachronism, unearthed.

unearthed from our continuing archealogical expedition in preparation for moving out of this sold house is this curious anachronism - the photo storage box! if you look close, you'll see that the label proudly proclaims, "STORES AND PROTECTS OVER 1000 PHOTOS".

occasionally over the years, before Going Digital, we'd promise ourselves that Real Soon we'd sort through our endless packages of developed photos from the local drug store and organize, collate and categorize them meticulously so that whenever we found the time, we could wistfully walk down memory lane.

as you can see, the box remains unopened, encased in plastic wrap, silently mocking our grand organizational goals.

someday, maybe i'll sort through the prints, scan them in and, uh. right.

Just like I always think I'll actually print up all of my digital photos and organize them into albums... ha ha ha. By the way, Odin is just so darn cute!! So glad that everything is going well! Good luck with the move. If your travels bring you to DC, let us know!

I'm actually doing just that, scanning in old family photos. I've started scanning in the best ones from my parents albums. I figure its a miracle they survived nearly 30 years in less than ideal conditions (and through 3 kids) so I better save them for prosterity while I can. I'm figuring that I'll make a collage for my mom for Mothers Day of photos from her first few days as a mother (with me!) up to this weekend (my brothers college graduation).

As a more long term project I'm scanning in old family photos. My mom has lots of them as they were left to her by my great-grandmother. I plan to burn them to CD and pass them on to my many aunts and uncles.

Of course, I don't have a little Odin and moving to keep up with these days...

Funny!

My parents have boxes and boxes of old slides that are pretty much our family history so I want to scan them in. Looks like excellent negative scanners (ones where you don't have to worry about dust removal yourself) are expensive; I've thought about renting one.

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
