sure, we've noticed that odin has seemed a little pudgy lately and we've thought that it's a little harder to carry him around than in the past, but without an official weighin since his 9 months checkup - when he tipped the scales at 14 pounds 14 ounces - it's been a difficult to know exactly how many pounds he's been packing in those rolls.
well, today we learned during a routine series of checkups that he's a whopping 17 pounds 14 ounces ( 8.10 kilograms ) or almost 18 pounds! so he's just about the 50th percentile on the preemie age adjusted weight charts and for the very first time he's just barely made it onto the full term unadjusted charts where he hit the third percentile!
at this rate, it seems like he won't be able to fit in his car seat much longer. or at least it's not a roomy as it once was.
after the doctor visits, he and mamma snuck off to go toy shopping without me and he was sleeping soundly by the time they got home. it's unusual for him to stay sleeping in his car seat after being brought inside the house, so it must have been an exciting and tiring trip!
Wow, he really is getting big!!! And with a birthday right around the corner too :) I read that you are planning to do a little traveling - if Chicago is on the horizon, let us know. I'm sure the boys would love to meet each other.
BTW - I noticed that you are using the standard preemie chart (infants greater than 1500g) - there is a VLBW (very low birth weight) chart that to my frustration was difficult to locate on the web. This is the one that our health system uses for infants born <1500g (505g in our case), and I thought I would share it with you.

“"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."”
the complete tales & poems of winnie the poohthis site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.
he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.
if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
