ex machina

the eric update - day 335: 11 months! or hanging out in his new pool watching the big kids play.

now that pool is open for business, it's not uncommon on the weekends to have odin's cousins over for a pool party. today, coincidentally on his 11 month birthday, odin had a grand time watching everyone splash and laugh and swim.

perhaps he didn't seem too preoccupied with why he wasn't able to get into the Big Kid Pool because he was able to hang out in his very own mini-pool. of course, the cousins thought if was pretty neat to have your own personal pool with water that was a lot warmer that the newly opened and very chilly Big Kid Pool.

the pool is supposed to be used in the bath as a way to help parents transition to baths with their newly crawling, climbing infants. i guess the smaller size tub is supposed to make everything more mangeable and a little safer on the chance that the wee one takes a face dive into water.

but while it might make a convenient mini pool, i'm not sure it makes bath time any more manageable, since the sides of the pool are just the right size for aiding him in his mission to stand up and "walk" around. of course, he thinks it's great fun to try to climb out of the tub during the bath and as we've already learned with the forbidden foliage the more we try to convince him to stay in the tub, the more effort he'll expend trying to escape!

"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
