the eric update - day 336: The Stair Master!

whooohooo!

a mere 26 days after his first unsuccessful attempt to ascend the stairs, odin made big progress today in his continuing attempts to explore the entire house under his own power by climbing up four stairs all by himself!

it's hard to believe that we're only had ten days of experience with the super crawling, climbing edition of odin .

he was having so much fun and scaled them them so quickly that i suspect we'll have to be constantly vigilent that at any moment he may decide it's a good time be The Stair Master.

Ah, time for your new best friend, the baby gate! Learning to climb down safely comes a lot later than learning to climb up to a dangerous height. I can say from scary personal experience that Odin will invariably choose the moment you are not watching him to assume his new Stair Master persona. Watching your child tumble down the stairs in the split second before you can reach them is not an experience I recommend. (There are pressure-install gates which you don't have to attach to the wall of your temporary digs.)

"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
