The eric update - day 343: obsessively observing gauges. and surprising ( sort of ) auntie m!

We made it to albany last night with no problems! Except for odin deciding that he didn't want to be traveling anymore an hour before we got there. And then decidng that he wanted to stay up for a few hours laughing and playng long after we were ready to collapse.

So after sleeping in and getting a late start were now slowly moving on a long detour off the highway through albany and I'm watching the temperature gauge slowly rise as we crawl up an impossibly long hill.

I wonder at what temperature it'll overheat.

update: sloooowly the pictures arrive! eventually we escaped the detour and even had a chance to surprise auntie m with a short visit. click on each picture for a short description.

Did you get lost? Not a word in 24 hours. Hope everything is ok.

I know -- I keep obsessively checking to see where they are and if they're OK!

Me too, and I'm his dad :-) Just heard through my daughter (Auntie M) that all arrived safely at their final destination in Maine. Guessing that T-mobile service and wifi hotspots are hard to come by in downeast Maine. Please stand by and I'm sure Eric will update us as soon as he can.

Thanks for caring,

Grandpa Eric

Yep, they are safe. I spoke to Kris yesterday when they were about 45 minutes away from Machias (did I spell that right?). They were stopping at Jordans...some place with pink hot dogs to get something to eat and give Odin a break. They all seemed upbeat and the galaxie was still running.

jeeeeeeez. sorry about that.

the t-mobile gprs connection finally just gave up. didn't mean to leave it on such a cliffhanger :-)

yes, we arrived without any major problems, yesterday in the late afternoon and have been unpacking and getting acclimated. we have a few pictures that will probably get uploaded soon, although i have to admit that suffering through a dialup connection after years of always-on broadband is going to take a bit to get used to - although that should be changing in a day or two and then it'll be back to business as usual.

thanks for your patience through the connection troubles :-)

So glad to hear you made it safe and sound. It appears Odin did very well on his very long, long car ride.
Dial up? What's that? :o)

Ok..you said you were coming close to me..Halifax, Nova Scotia. Well, do hop the gulf of Maine and drive on up to the cooling shores of Nova Scotia.

Machias is a lovely area. Do enjoy the slow pace of life...including waiting for broadband etc. It's all a matter of adjusting attitude. I think as a maritimer I even talk slower than most..LOL!

Glad to hear all arrived safely and intact. We are road trip junkies. We have just returned from Florida where even the heat and humidity are more comforting than the upper north east. So get your feet wet and enjoy the morning and evening summer breezes where a sweater is still needed. I am a true believer in the health benifits of the salt air lifestyle. Mauja must be in heaven!

Awaiting your acclimitizing update! Glad all went well!

toodles

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
