while odin has enjoyed his own wading pool and the waters at the family camp and the atlantic ocean were far too cold for swimming.
so today we decided that it was the perfect day to give odin his first swimming lesson.
he and kris spent quite a bit of time practicing blowing out the water gets close to your mouth. it didn't take too long before he really had the hang of it.
next week, we might have to try to teach him the doggie paddle so he can swim just like mauja.
my advice: keep it up even in winter, find a place that has an indoor pool and keep re-introducing him to water. Definitely let him get his ears wet and when you bathe him, make it "fun" to dump water on his head. It is all to easy for kids to start to be afraid of water. Learn from my mistakes!

even though he likes splishing and splashing in the tub, he seems to intuit that the pool is a whole different thing. he's a little unsure of the pool water when he first gets in but he's doing a great job getting used to it. by the end of the summer i think he'll be a champ. we'll probably look into registering for the winter infant swimming classes they offer in the area so he can keep practicing.

oh yes! it's the perfect hat when you need to keep the sun off him and make sure that you have a fighting chance of keeping it on his head. and it's stylish!
who gave him such a nice gift anyway :-)
“"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."”
the complete tales & poems of winnie the poohthis site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.
he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.
if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
