the eric update - day 419: and then there was one ( nap )?

while we've had some very occasional sleep "issues" for the most part, we adhere to a fairly regimented routine that seems to keep everyone happy. odin is almost always in bed between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. and although he still often wakes once in the night for food, he usually has a restful night's sleep until 6 or 7 a.m.

two months ago he dropped the third of his three ( 9 a.m., 12 p.m. and 3p.m. ) daily naps and just this week, we think he's decided that he does need his noon nap either, deciding instead to play on his BIg Boy Bed and excited as ever when we finally clue into the fact that he's probably not going to fall asleep.

suddenly we're realizing just how much "free" time we had when he was taking 3 naps a day now that we're down to one :-)

and as another indication that it's really time to Batten Down The Hatches, odin has learned when he's not taking a nap that he can tip over his diaper pail ( which is actually the one-step trash can that we puchased on our First Family Field Trip the day after arriving home from the nicu )!

fun!

"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
