the eric update - day 437: o.j. did it!

day 437: o.j. did it! we've finally won at least this battle in The Great Butt Rash War and - to mix a metaphor - the prime suspect is o.j..

we didn't suspect orange juice immediately because although we had only recently started giving odin juice in his sippy cup and the occasional slice of orange and it didn't seem to instantly be associated with a rash. perhaps it takes a little time to develop a tendency to rash? in any case if we take away everything with orange juice in it his rash clears up quite quickly and if we reintroduce the juice it comes back.

apparently citrus fruits in general can be a common cause of allergies and rashes, an effect that presumably dimishes over time.

but i wonder how long he'll have to wait, because odin sure is going to miss his oranges.

Not too surprising. My son is 22 months now and still can't have straight OJ, or too much of an orange. If he has OJ it has to be like 2/3rds water. Grape juice and apple juice work well though.

"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
