ex machina

the eric update - day 452: all the better to eat you with!

what with his ever growing set of teeth and his propensity to growl and snort when he's really happy ( while we suspect he learned the former behavior from mauja , we're still trying to figure out the who has been teaching odin to snort when we're not around ), when i snapped this picture i thought how it was quite nice that he hadn't quite figured out that biting can be impressive way to communicate that you want something when you can't quite get the words out.

of course, having merely thought the thought means i've guaranteed that within the next week or so he'll start experimenting with the parental behavior modification technique, which is why i'm reviewing methods for curbing toddler biting since i'm not sure that we can readily transfer the methods we used to train mauja that biting was a Bad Thing :-)

Well, there's reason to hope that biting won't become an issue :). OUr son is now 3 and has yet to become a 'biter', although I will admit to getting nipped slightly once or twice while nursing. Here's hoping the trend continues for me and doesn't start for you :-). And might I add: Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!?

That is such a cute picture.

My son bit me once when he was about 1 1/2 years old. He bit me on the shoulder and it was hard enough to bring tears to my eyes. He thought mommy was crying about it and never bit again.

"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
