the eric update - day 465: on incrementalism and newton's third law.

since we see him everyday, it's easy to not attend to the incremental changes that occur over time until suddenly the cumulative effects can no longer be ignored; it seems like just yesterday that odin was barely able to hold himself up in his highchair and even while we, of course, know that he's been growing all the while since then and now, there's still something immediate and tangible when we find ourselves realizing that innumerable and barely noticed events have occured to make possible this very day when - for the first time - he discovers that he's tall enough to repeatedly push his feet against the table and tip his highchair onto its back legs, which - unsurprisingly - he finds tremendously amusing as he attempts to empirically test newton's third law.

I'm here! I unfortunately leave on Friday. I'm sorry I have neither your email or cell with me!
I'm staying in Rockford with my sister. I believe I have a new cell number compared to what I gave you had last time.

"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
