the eric update - day 626: dunk! dunk!

the world, i think, is divided between those people who dunk foods in liquids and those who do not. i'm not a dunker, but kris is and she's tricked odin into thinking that it's fun to make all sorts of foods mushy and sopping with milk. i guess i'm in the minority since, at least according to a recent poll 35 percent of the population are admitted dunkers regardless of the cookie type while 50 percent will at least consider dunking an option but it depends on the cookie. and a mere 16 percent of us are pretty much never moved to dunk.

of course dunking oreo cookies is a favorite activity. and graham crackers. even grilled cheese sandwiches!

who knows, maybe someday odin will have an enthusiastic and strongly held opinion about whether or not graham crackers are better in a bowl of milk or dipped ( neither, i say! crackers and cookiesmust be crisp when eaten and washed down the gullet with milk! ).

Ah, my toddler will dunk pizza, chicken, and well, just about anything in her milk at mealtime. And then she'll eat it. And she'll drink the milk. Sometimes she'll drink the milk with the dunking item still in the cup, like she's creating a flavour infusion. Grosses me out, to be honest :)

I think toddlers just plain enjoy the act of dunking, flavor / texture aside.

I know a certain toddler who has been known to dunk bread in ... well, anything, including water.

It think you should have hope that Odin wil outgrow the dunk phase.

"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
