ex machina

breaching the yytri-primmer dam.

heavy equipment works on an intentional breach of the yytri-primmer dam which is just a few miles outside of town.

the dam was severely damaged in the storms last august, and suffered additional damage during the recent flooding.

the dam was lowered to allow any high water simply flow over, reducing the chance for an uncontrolled, catastrophic breach. of course, either event would be sad news for the homes and businesses downstream from the dam.

luckily, the storms we were supposed get all day broke apart and went to the north and south. good news for us, not so much for the towns to the north and the south.

i really wanted to walk out on the top of the dam and get a shot with the construction equipment in the foreground and a better view of just how much water the dam was holding back, but i thought they wouldn't take too kindly to the idea.

i'll probably come back and get a shot to give some perspective of just how high the water relative to the norm.

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
