the eric update - day 1981: a christmas tree a huntin' and zip line ridin' we go!

'tis the season for christmas tree so we made our annual trek to a local "cut your own" tree farm to get our family favorite, an eastern white pine.

i guess white pines were not very popular christmas trees until recently and they're a little difficult to find. luckily for us, our favorite tree farm, snowy ridge in westby, wisconsin planted a slew of them a few years back and they're just getting tall enough to make for a fine christmas tree.

it's a tough trek back to the car, but we snowdeal men are a rugged bunch :-)

this was the first year that odin helped me carry the tree all the way - what a trooper!

what kind of christmas tree farm has a zip line for added fun? snowy ridge does.

and according to odin the 100 foot speedy run is Awe.Some!

on one end, the zip line is attached to what must have been a very grand tree.

and the zip line ends in mighty impressive tree house!

after pulling a christmas tree out of the woods and riding a zip line over and over again, is there any better way to end the day than by sitting in a toasty log cabin and dipping cookies in a cup of hot chocolate?

no, there is not :-)

"it is hard to be brave," said piglet, sniffing slightly, "when you're only a Very Small Animal." rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said: "it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

[ about ]

this site chronicles the continuing adventures of my son, odin, who was unexpectedly born on the fourth of july at 25 weeks gestation, weighing 1 pound 7 ounces.

he's quite a fighter and you can always send him a postcard to the most current address listed here if you're inspired by his adventures. see the postcard project/google maps mashup to see a map of the postcards.

if you're new, you can browse the archives to catch up. and don't forget to watch a few movies that i made while we were in the neonatal intensive care unit. or if you want the abridged version and you can find a copy, you can read about his adventures in the november 2005 issue of parents magazine.
